Man taken to hospital as fire crews battle city centre bus engulfed in flames

A BUS has burst into flames in Glasgow city centre as fire crews battle to bring a blaze under control. Fire crews raced to the city’s Renfield Street at around 12:15pm this afternoon to reports of a double-decker First Bus on fire.

Cops confirmed a 54-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers are in attendance at a vehicle fire on Renfield Street to assist with traffic management.

“A 54-year-old man has gone to hospital for treatment.” His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Pictures from the scene show the burnt out remains of the bus and firefighters remain at the scene. The area is locked down as one lone cop guards the outer cordon and a fire truck at the other end.

Handfuls of people watched on in disbelief with some filming on phones. A pair of firefighters are working on the top level of the bus.
