Popular restaurant reopens for first time in over two years
One of Cornwall’s most popular eating out destinations in Cornwall will reopen for eat-in dining for the first time in over two years. Bango Kitchen in Penryn had been operating as a restaurant for just seven months when it was forced to close due to the Covid pandemic in March 2020. The Pan Asian canteen team spent six months renovating and building on Commercial Road between December 2018 and its opening in July 2019. Co-owners Nik Archer and Howard Sellers said: “We couldn’t have been happier with how life was going, until the world changed in March 2020.
Consequently we have been seven months a restaurant and now over two years a takeaway. Crazy! “The time is now right for us to reopen.
We have built a great team and feel confident we can maintain the takeaway side of things while bringing Bango Kitchen back to life as the buzzy, vibrant and delicious Pan Asian Kitchen we always wanted it to be! The whole team is beyond excited.” Review: Best sushi restaurant in Cornwall and South West has ‘wow’ factor
So from Wednesday, May 18 you will be able to step inside, take a seat and use the Bango Kitchen App (downloadable from the app store) or scan a QR code and place an order for the popular food. They will operate on Tuesday to Friday, 11am to 3pm and Saturdays 11am to 8pm for the full menu plus coffee and pastries available from 7am. The entire menu is available to eat in or takeaway and the app means you can find a seat and place your order within seconds.
They don’t take bookings at Bango so if they are full you will just need to wait outside for a seat, pop back later or order a takeaway. The owners added: “We hope to bring to life all the plans and ambitions we shelved for the past two years, so we want to extend our opening hours, host gigs, art exhibitions, feast nights, brunch clubs and much, much more. We recently won gold awards in the Casual Dining Categories at both the Cornwall and South West Tourism Awards so we hope to use the momentum from these to hit the ground running and bring the buzz back inside the building.”
Bango Kitchen is more than just a Pan Asian canteen though, it is the home of their award-winning streetfood truck, The Shellfish Pig, and a wedding / events catering business which is why they have spent the past six months building a prep/second kitchen upstairs and further restoring the iconic Penryn building.
They are also returning with something new – Bango Kitchen Organic Gin, which has been created with Black & Gold Organic Gin Distillery in Ponsanooth.
